St Andrews

The famous “Home of Golf” at St Andrews is without doubt Fife’s major visitor destination, and its top-rated university and thousands of students provide a cosmopolitan atmosphere.

The glorious East and West Sands, the cathedral, St Andrews Castle, St Andrews Harbour, and the Sea Life Centre are just a few of the town’s attractions.

They are more than matched by some of the cuisine on offer, not least in the five star establishments at Old Course Hotel Resort and Spa beside the golf links, and the Fairmont St Andrews on its cliff top site south east of the town. In addition Rufflets Country House Hotel lies just outside the townon the  

There are hotels, restaurants, cafes and tea shops galore, including the spectacularly located Seafood Restaurant overlooking the West Sands, the Adamson, Rocca, the Vine Leaf restaurant, the Doll’s House, the Glass House, the Grange Inn, the Balaka, and two excellent fish and chip shops in the award winning Cromars, and the Tail End.

Fabulous Italian ice cream can be found at Jannettas, Luvians, and Nardini's, and St Andrews Brewing Company's pub se3rves local ale, and the Eden Mill Distillery and Brewery and Kingsbarns Distillery and Visitor Centre offer tours.

Food shops include IJ Mellis and the Guid Cheese Shop, bakery firm Fisher & Donaldson’s, the Little Italian Shop and Butler and Company delicatessens, Rocca deli, and the butcher Minick of St Andrews.  Just outside the town on the main approach from the west the recently developed Balgove Larder, with its extensive farm shop, butcher and cafe, has proved a real winner with townsfolk and visitors.
